Perhaps one of the most polemical topics amongst health-conscious individuals is diet. Individuals who strive to adopt the healthiest diet are ironically called “fanatics” or labeled “extreme.” The irony is found in Western health statistics and the longevity for the average person eating what has become known as the Standard American Diet (SAD). In a country where 1 in 2 people will develop cancer in their lifetime, where every 60 seconds someone dies from heart disease, why would someone be labeled “extreme” for trying their best to avoid this grim prognosis?
Fruitarianism, or a diet consisting solely of fruit, is on the rise. One of the movement’s most popular online hubs, 30bananasaday.com, boasts nearly 30,000 members.
The Fruitarian Philosophy
To provide an overview of the basic tenets of the diet, here is a summary of the main reasons many people are choosing to go fruitarian. It boils down to 6 basic arguments: health, sustainability, evolutionary reasons, animal cruelty, financial savings, and what might be called “spiritual” reasons.
If man was left to his own devices in nature, what would he be most drawn towards? Once the hunger pangs set it, his nose would lead him to the sweet aromas of fruit. His eyes would lead him to the bright, vibrant colors of fruit. His taste buds would savor the natural sugars in ripe fruit. Like his closest primate relatives, he would consume large mono-meals of fruit. Man certainly wouldn’t consume large mono-meals of most other things, even vegetables. A mono-meal of onions, eggplant, or radishes just sounds awful. Most vegetables are only palatable in combination with other vegetables, or salad dressings, or spices.
Fruit is almost always low-hanging, doesn’t require a chase, it has the proper ratio of fats to proteins to carbs, and is abundant in our natural habitat. And for those who think our natural habitat is anywhere other than tropical climates, why would we die from the elements everywhere else without technology or assistance? (And yes, fruitarians who live in colder climates are essentially missing the “local” aspect of the sustainability equation.)
Humans are physiologically herbivores. Period. Many wish to keep the argument going, to remain obstinate and tell you that the science is still uncertain. This is a stubborn and baseless dogma. See the evidence for yourself (bear in mind that this is merely the tip of the iceberg, and this chart leaves out other conclusive factors like panting versus sweating, sprinting versus stamina, etc.)
Sustainability & Animal Cruelty
Fruitarianism is by its nature a vegan diet. This means there is no exploitation, enslavement, rape, or murder of animals. It goes a step further than veganism because eating fruit does not kill the entire plant. Most vegetables are killed upon harvest. A fruit plant will offer up the fruit without injury. In fact, if the fruit doesn’t get eaten, it will fall and decompose. The plant wants you to consume the fruit and spread its seeds.
Dispelling Myths about Fruit
The 3 biggest myths about fruit are that it contributes to diabetes, it lacks the proper amount of nutrition, and that it feeds candida (unfriendly bacteria in your gut). Like a page out of George Orwell’s 1984, “War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength,” – well, many of these myths are the complete inversion of the truth. Let’s take them one at a time.
Fruit Actually Lowers Risk of Diabetes
Fruit is shown to reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 25%, according to a Harvard study.
People who ate at least two servings each week of certain whole fruits — particularly blueberries, grapes, and apples — reduced their risk for type 2 diabetes by as much as 23% in comparison to those who ate less than one serving per month. Conversely, those who consumed one or more servings of fruit juice each day increased their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 21%. The researchers found that swapping three servings of juice per week for whole fruits would result in a 7% reduction in diabetes risk.
The fruits’ glycemic index (a measure of how rapidly carbohydrates in a food boost blood sugar) did not prove to be a significant factor in determining a fruit’s association with type 2 diabetes risk. However, the high glycemic index of fruit juice — which passes through the digestive system more rapidly than fiber-rich fruit — may explain the positive link between juice consumption and increased diabetes risk.
In fact, studies have been done on individual fruits that scientifically show how each one can dramatically cut your risk for diabetes on their own, such as persimmons, strawberries, blueberries, bergamot oranges, and figs to name a few.
A Varied Fruit Diet Contains All the Nutrition Your Body Needs
This is a very frustrating topic. Why? Almost all omnivorous humans who want to lecture vegans and fruitarians about healthy vitamin and mineral levels are themselves chronically undernourished. There is a multi-trillion dollar hospital-pharmaceutical-industrial complex which does not exist because there are a few vegans and fruitarians in society. It arose out of the vitamin/mineral deficiencies and crumbling health of mainstream people.
This is highlighted by the fact that even individuals who do not follow fruitarian diets BUY VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS. Why would they buy vitamin supplements if their diets were providing for them all the nourishment their bodies need?
There are plant-based sources for every single amino acid, omega, anti-oxidant, vitamin, mineral, fat, and protein that the human body needs.
Fruit Alone Actually Starves Candida
Candida’s main food source is fermented sugars. Fruit does not ferment if it is eaten alone. Fruit only ferments during improper food combining. The following is an excerpt from perhaps the most accurate and comprehensive guide to correcting candidiasis.
Lots of healthy glucose is the last thing that anyone expects to hear recommended on a Candida diet. I think it is important to notice, however, that people with Candida troubles are already sick, I do not understand how starving them will help.
The first thing that happens when your body is low on glucose is that a hormone is secreted from your brain saying that it is starving and it needs more glucose. This hormone (called ACTH) causes the adrenals to release cortisol (which causes a mess if released too often due to stress or bad dietary choices) which causes two important things to happen: First, the body cells release protein (for manufacture into glucose in the liver — a process that pulls out water, minerals and other nutrients and causes deficiency). Second, those same cells become glucose resistant.
The protein is taken to the liver where a toxic form of glucose synthesis takes place. Understand that this process is natural and normal and no problem for your body if it happens once in a while. When it happens a lot, there is a problem.
The glucose is released into the blood and the brain takes up all it can. Immediately, however, there is an excess of glucose (a sugar) in the blood which your body cells will not readily take up because the cortisol made them glucose resistant.
Normal cells will not take it up, but cancer cells and Candida have no such inhibitions!
The body will whip the pancreas to release high levels of insulin to get that sugar into the cells (where it is needed) and out of the blood (where it can cause problems).
I also recommend just fruit for breakfast. This feeds the body cells and will not hang out in the blood for Candida to eat or blood sugar to increase. This will build up glycogen stores (which are depleted in most people) which will release glucose anytime it is needed so that the whole cortisol process does not have to take place.
Sugars that are immediately usable by the body are no threat. This includes whole sugars with enzymes intact and trace minerals and water to aid in their use. This is what you get from ripe fruit, honey, sprouts and raw non-starchy vegetables.
Believe them or not, many so-called breatharians claim to have transitioned to their pranic state by ascending through the hierarchy of diets, so to speak. Many claim to have left behind meat as vegetarians, then gone vegan, raw vegan, fruitarian, liquidarian, to only water, and finally breatharian. For information on the breatharian “movement,” the documentary In the Beginning there Was Light explores the phenomenon more closely.
If man is to derive chi from external sources, too, then he should eat the most alive foods. Animal carcasses are not ideal. Man should seek sources of nourishment that are closest to pure light energy. Autotrophs are the next best thing to direct sunlight or sungazing.

This is purely rumination, but if karma is indeed a true vigilante for the execution of spiritual justice, then perhaps parasites are its ammunition reserved for meat eaters. Of the 24 common dietary parasites that humans can contract, fully 22 of them are only contracted from eating animals (the other two parasites are only contracted through plants or seaweed that has been contaminated from animal sources). However, to be technical, there are 277 known species of tapeworms that are contracted by eating animals, although we only counted them once. One interesting thing to point out is that all parasite cleansing regimens have one thing in common: they are all vegan plant-based remedies.
