Few health-related topics come close to fluoridation in regard to colossal misconceptions and widespread public ignorance – even in the company of vaccinations or genetically engineered foods (GMOs). One look at the divisive issue and the irrational fear of speaking against fluoride in public, and you will see that it is still a largely taboo subject even in 2016.
Let’s set the record straight. We’ll start by clearing up some definitions.
Fluoride – a very generic term referring to any of the following terms
Fluoride Products – a handful of manmade fluorine-based chemicals added to a municipal water supply. The 4 most common “fluoride products” are hydrofluorosilicic acid, sodium fluorosilicate, hexafluorosilicic acid, and sodium fluoride which is perhaps the most well-known
Calcium Fluoride – the naturally occurring form of fluoride found in many wells and aquifers, shown to be a vital nutrient to the human body
So, there are synthetic forms of fluoride and then there is the naturally-occurring form of fluoride. How are synthetic forms of fluoride manufactured? Sodium fluoride is the inorganic chemical byproduct of both superphosphate fertilizer production and aluminum and steel smelting.

10 Common Misconceptions About Water Fluoridation
Drip-Feed Genocide
Public ignorance regarding fluoride is, without mincing words, due to a massive public relations campaign spearheaded by a conglomeration including, but not limited to, the American Dental Association (ADA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the “American government,” and the metal and fertilizer industries. These agencies are the key players in the deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at perpetuating a multi-decade genocidal experiment.
Fluoride is found in many places, not just in municipal water supplies. Fluoride is still used in modern dentistry, it is used in pesticides, fungicides, and other biocides, it is added to bottled drinking water by soulless companies like Nestle (fully 13 brands add fluoride as of 2008), and it is even allowed into children’s toothpaste. Some lesser known sources of fluoride include antibiotics, bottled juices, chewing gum, pharmaceuticals, household cleaning products, mattresses, milk, instant teas, mouthwash, tranquilizers, Teflon, Kleenex tissues, soda, air fresheners, and vaccines.
According to the ADA, “Over 405 million people in more than 60 countries worldwide enjoy the benefits of water fluoridation.” This amounts to several million tons added to the US water supply annually. How did an EPA-recognized hazardous material become widely used in topical and internal treatments of tooth decay? And according to the FDA’s grand dictum that only a drug can treat, prevent, or cure an illness, how can it knowingly allow the drugging of tap water where there is no ability to regulate individual dosages? For example, everyone drinks different amounts of tap water, and an infant must not receive the same dosage of fluoride as an adult.
Water Treatment vs. Water Drugging
There are many chemicals added to the water supply. All of which, with the exception of fluoride, are added to treat the water itself. Fluoride, however, is added to treat tooth decay. This is a program of mass medication and should not be the responsibility of the CDC. So what does the FDA have to say? The FDA considers sodium fluoride an “Unapproved New Drug”, yet it has been added to the water supply to treat a medical condition for more than 50 years.
If these facts alone aren’t raising moral questions in the reader, allow me to supply some more eyebrow raising questions. In the clinical studies cited by the CDC, the dosage is closely regulated, but when added to the water supply there is no way to assess who is consuming how much. Do we know the real effects of sodium fluoride over long periods of time in unregulated doses? Are new mothers mixing baby formula with fluoridated water? If so, have studies been done to assess the safety of this practice?
Convoluted History
Some of you may remember film reels from the 1950’s citing the benefits of sodium fluoride. Some of you may have heard your dentist applaud this chemical god send of modern dentistry, but, have you, the reader, read or researched the history of the Fluoridation program for yourself? Have you heard about patients on dialysis machines developing bone cancer from fluoridated water in the 1970’s before the machines were fitted with fluoride filters? Is it possible that this program, like many others, stemmed from the monetary interests of big business rather than public health interests?
In 1939, Gerald J. Cox, a scientist employed by the American Aluminum Company (ALCOA), the world’s largest producer of sodium fluoride at the time, was tasked with finding a use for the chemical so that the company could turn a loss into a profit. After all, the handling and disposal of industrial hazardous materials is quite costly. Cox found a loose correlation in lab rats between fluoride and dental health. However, in reports as early as 1930 there were serious concerns about the chemical causing mottled tooth enamel. (This mottled enamel is a condition known as dental fluorosis in humans and it is widely accepted that this condition is a direct result of water fluoridation.) Since that time, there have been countless independent studies that categorically disprove the industry-funded studies. For instance, a study conducted by Harvard University and published in the July 2012 Environmental Health Perspectives, a U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Journal, showed that “children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQs than those who lived in low fluoride areas.” Other studies show links to cancer, infertility, docility, and calcification of the pineal gland.
In 2006 the National Research Council released a 500 page review, which took 12 scientists more than 3 years to produce. The findings of this study challenges the EPA’s “safe” standard of 4ppm. The report documents health concerns from fluoride exposure such as bone damage, brain damage, and risk to the endocrine system. According to Dr. Bob Carton, a former risk assessment scientist at the EPA, this report “should be the center piece of every discussion on fluoridation. It changes everything.”
The cover-up becomes even more sinister when one looks into the once-secret testing of fluoride on mentally retarded American children in the 1940s and Nazi and Soviet experimentation with their respective prisoners.
The Dangers of Collectivism
Collective solutions are a delicate matter. Collective decisions, after all, got us into this mess. It is ultimately up to you what you decide to do with your health and your wallet. I ask you, the reader, to open your mind to the possibility that you’ve been lied to. In a time where corporate interests control politics, finance, scientific studies, and public health, is it that hard to believe that the interest of the American people is seldom taken into account when hundreds of millions of dollars are on the line? Educate yourself on the suppressed history and real dangers of sodium fluoride. Learn the difference between naturally-occurring fluoride and synthetic fluoride so that you can rebut the arguments of the misinformed.
Is it moral to impose this program on those of us who choose not to consume this caustic substance? Consider boycotting all companies selling fluoride-laced products and engaging with your local city council to end the municipal fluoridation program. Many cities across the country are joining the movement, and it is up to us whether we bring this travesty to an end or continue to allow our health and the health of our loved ones to be chemically eroded.

You make some good points, but there are also some errors. Calcium fluoride is not a nutrient. The human body has no requirement for fluoride in any form. There are actually millions of people suffering from skeletal fluorosis and other serious adverse health effects from naturally occurring fluoride in drinking water worldwide. Hydrofluorosilicic acid and hexafluorosilicic acid are different names for the same chemical (H2SiF6). You refer to “clinical studies cited by the CDC”. What clinical studies? The studies I’ve seen are population-based studies, not clinical studies. Studies showing links to docility are also referred to. Again, that is news… Read more »
