A video, recorded yesterday in Los Angeles, clearly shows several police officers using unnecessary force that ultimately resulted in the shooting death of an unarmed homeless man.
This unnecessary use of force is becoming too much of the norm in America. America was once a country the prided itself on individual freedom and constitutional rights, but is now quickly becoming an Orwellian dictatorship, where those with the guns are free from all accountability to the Law.
According to LA Times,
Two officers and a sergeant fired at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Smith said. It was unclear how many times the officers fired, although at least five shots can be heard on the video recording that captured the shooting.
The youth of today do not understand the Andy Griffith depiction of Police that once painted the perception of the American populous. This perception has been slowly erased and supplanted with masked men and black uniforms killing at will with no consequence. Much of the citizenry has given themselves over to blind obedience knowing that to challenge authority could result in death.
How do we change this? Recent revelations, such as the Homan Square Detention Center recently exposed in Chicago, are working toward enlightening the people to the freedoms they lost and the cost of their obedience.
Accountability is the only way to reform the system. The only way that those in power will be held accountable is through massive public back lash, a movement demanding justice. Help make this video go viral and demand accountability to those responsible. True justice would hold, not only the officer who pulled the trigger accountable, but also those who stood by and allowed him to walk away a free man.
